Locally grown potatoes, carrots, onions and other farm-fresh foods will be included in the Cornucopia Food Pantry’s Thanksgiving Care Baskets again this year, thanks to UNH Slow Food volunteers.
UNH Slow Food student leaders are teaming up with Seacoast Eat Local to collect food donations for the Cornucopia’s Care Basket program at this Saturday’s Holiday Farmers’ Market – November 21st at Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford. Seacoast Eat Local is reaching out to its network of farmers and consumers to promote this “local food – food drive,” encouraging market customers to “consider buying a few extra potatoes, carrots, or a loaf of bread so that our neighbors in need can share in our local bounty for the holiday.” Donations will be collected by UNH students during the market from 10:00am – 2:00pm. This weekend’s market features 40+ farmers and prepared food vendors selling everything from beets, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts to beef, honey, eggs, and cheese.
Seacoast Eat Local will host a total of 11 Winter Farmers’ Markets, taking place at 2 locations in Rollinsford and Exeter, NH. Food donations will be collected at each market, for delivery to various organizations including the NH Food Bank, Exeter Food Pantry, Seacoast Family Food Pantry, and others. For Winter Farmers’ Market dates, locations and other details, visit www.seacoasteatlocal.org The website also lists up-to-date information about other winter markets happening in Rye, Northwood, Newmarket and Newburyport.
